Round UP Benefitting Foster Closet
For the month of February & March, both pubs will host ROUND UP benefiting Foster Closet
Welcome to the Foster Closet, in 2007, Foster Closet began in the McGuire's family's home. It became a nonprofit (501c3) in 2009. It was a free resource for over 17 years. These resources are for the foster parents and relative, non-relative placements and Independent Living Teens in their area of the state, to access clothing, children's accessories, toys and children's furniture and more, to help take care of the foster children entrusted to them.
Foster Closet offers a simple, no-nonsense approach that provides immediate assistance without complicated procedures. Through the generous contributions of our community, Foster Closet's inventory is abundant and we rely on a vast network of volunteers and donors to access additional donations at a moment's notice.
Recently, our partnership with a child-welfare agency, within Jacksonville, with whom we have partnered for the past 14 years, decided to cut our funding in half without prior notice. This unexpected reduction has created an insurmountable financial challenge for us. Despite our efforts and numerous fundraisers throughout the years, we find ourselves unable to sustain the level of services that our foster homes have come to rely upon.
However, it was a step we had to take to ensure that we do not compromise on the quality of support and services during this transition period.
Our work is not done. We have had to revamp our nonprofit business model to adjust to the nuances of how to pay for the overhead cost which were once provided.
We have decided to become a Thrift Store for the foster care community and other charitable organizations. We will have more information to come.
"Seeing children come into care with trash bags, we knew we had to give children the needed dignity they deserved."
